Introducing this 1967 Cobra built by Johnex Motorsports of Brampton, Ontario.  Johnex opened its doors over ten years ago, intending on honorably keeping the legendary Carroll Shelby Cobra Replicas alive.  Rather than reproduce yet another Cobra using the traditional “ladder-style” chassis, Johnex sought the guidance of the most successful race-chassis design firm in North America to create the foundation for what was meant to be the “Ultimate Cobra” for both performance and safety.

Applying over 2 decades of chassis design experience, CSC Racing met the challenge head on, and showed the entire industry that “chassis design” had vastly improved in the 30 years since Carroll Shelby’s cars were built.

Johnex insisted on chassis safety for every car produced, and there were no exceptions.  That same level of commitment was then applied throughout every component and product being used to compliment the name of the world-renown “Johnex Cobra”.

This car features 4-wheel disc brakes, a 17 gallon fuel tank (surrounded by the frame, for safety), 15″ Compomotive replica wheels, frame-mounted chrome roll bar, powder-coated frame with tubular front suspension, “Pro” adjustable coil-overs at all 4 corners, front-and-rear anti-sway bars, Jet-Hot coated sidepipes with wrapped headers, custom Johnex 4-core radiator, Goodrich radials, upgraded interior with adjustable driver’s seat, glove box, and heater/defrosters, windshield wipers, wind wings, tonneau cover, and a soft-top with side windows. Other equipment include a 9-inch Ford rear-end with 3.50 posi gears, and DeDion suspension setup. Shifting is through a Tremec “TKO” 5-speed gear box.

The 428 cubic inch V8 was assembled by Competition Machine of Plano, Texas. The block is a CJ block featuring “three-fingered” webbing around the main journals. The oiling system has been improved, and the block is bored 0.030 over. The rotating assembly is fully balanced and consists of a stock Ford CJ crank, beam-polished Ford rods, and Ross pistons. A Cloys double-roller timing chain and gears are used, along with a mild street cam and lifters from Isky (224 degrees duration, 110 degrees overlap, .540 lift intake, .560 lift exhaust). Stock Ford rocker shafts are used, along with stock Ford adjustable rocker arms. Induction is through Edelbrock aluminum heads (with 76cc chambers) and a Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake and a 750 Holley. Ignition is via a stock Ford distributor, retrofitted with a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion kit. Compression ratio is 10.25:1. An Edelbrock aluminum water pump, along with an electric puller fan, handle the cooling efforts. The job of transferring power from the engine to the Tremec is handled via a stock Ford flywheel, a Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch, and pressure-plate assembly. All contained in a Lakewood housing.
